Even though Joseph Stalin famously said that “death is the solution to all problems”, unfortunately it’s not quite true, especially for those who have to clean up the mess you leave behind. Annually $1.2T is inherited in the US, whose distribution can be fully automated with Blockchain. Currently there are 4 main problems:

(1) It costs too much! (An 8% cut of the ENTIRE estate)
(2) It takes too long to get your hands on the money! (Often a year or more)
(3) It requires an army of middlemen! (Bankers/lawyers/accountants)
(4) People fight too much! (Two wills? Forged wills? Old will? No will?).

Not to mention that most beneficiaries and executors don't even know what the deceased owned (25% of all life insurance policies are unclaimed - US gov currently has $32B in assets unclaimed upon death in a "financial lost & found"). Further, by automatically notifying the banks, Social Security Admin (SSA), IRS, DMV and credit bureaus, we can freeze the deceased’s accounts to prevent ...

(3) It requires an army of middlemen! (Bankers/lawyers/accountants)

Not to mention that most beneficiaries and executors don't even know what the deceased owned (25% of all life insurance policies are unclaimed - US gov currently has $32B in assets unclaimed upon death in a "financial lost & found"). Further, by automatically notifying the banks, Social Security Admin (SSA), IRS, DMV and credit bureaus, we can freeze the deceased’s accounts to prevent identity theft (the majority of which happens upon death), saving $16B per year.

Since it costs $1000s for a lawyer-written will, 50+% of Americans don’t even have a will or trust, despite most only having a simple collection of assets. Meanwhile, those that do have wills don’t keep them up to date. So, many default to probate courts, getting stuck for years. A poor single mother with a relative dying far away often ends up getting nothing from a $50K windfall-inheritance.

We can solve these problems by assisting the deceased individual in pre-death planning (filling out beneficiary forms, organizing assets e.g. bank deposits, stock portfolios, social media accounts etc.) so that upon death, the executor can immediately oversee blockchain-based smart contracts that quickly auto-execute the post-death distribution of these assets to beneficiaries and the tax man, exactly in accordance with the deceased’s wishes. Other automated tasks include identity theft prevention, switching off utilities, credit freezes etc. Today, manually addressing each takes up to 500+ usually unpaid hrs. of an executor’s time. Our product (in development) will automate (and in some cases initially semi-automate) many of these, under the supervision/confirmation of the executor and smart-contracts in the blockchain, saving money and time.

I have known co-founder Kathy Lane for 6 years. I have known the Subbiah crew for 6 months. Together they make an amazing team to successfully pull this complicated problem into a clear and simple solution. Kathy, founder of DieSmart.com is a true expert in digital assets and death. Her book "Die Smart: 11 Mistakes That Cost Your Family When You Die: Probate, Living Trusts, Power of Attorney (And More)", is the only one like it on Amazon. I have sat in the same room with most of these RIPplan co-founders and they can truly make this an asset for all of us, uniquely from the young and senior perspective.

The SkyDeck program is a perfect place for the team to get all the needed support for the delopment planning and release of this solution. The SkyDeck curriculum will help the team make the best RIPplan product.
