Location-based free access to ebooks means that when a Rook user is in a predefined location, they can read an book cover to cover for free, but when they leave that location, they must purchase the book to keep reading or visit another one of our locations.

We call these locations Rook Spots! And we are building an extensive network of them, starting in London. Rook Spots are natural points of content consumption such as cafes, hotels, airports, flights, trains, hospitals, Airbnbs, Ubers etc.

For publishers, Rook is a new channel to distribute content to a much wider and engaged potential customer base. Publishers will have their own dashboard where they can take advantage of the users' habitual data that Rook collects. For example, they will be able to promote specific books at targeted locations that the data high-lightens.

Rook makes its money by charging a 30% commission on ebook purchases made by readers when they leave locations.

We also charge locations a monthly fee to be Rook Spots.

Ad revenue: When a user reads a book for free, we display non-invasive advertisements. We operate this on a revenue sharing model with publishers. This enables publishers to extract revenue when a book is being read for free.
