Being a cyclist means embracing a sustainable lifestyle, enjoying commuting and promoting a change in society. Every year more than 3 mln bicycles are stolen in Europe and bicycle theft is a critical issue worldwide. This is particularly true in a world that is shifting towards a new concept of smart mobility, especially in urban areas.
Sherlock is a GPS-based antitheft device, connected to a mobile app, that allows cyclists to precisely locate their bicycles and retrieve them in case of theft. Sherlock is embedded into the structure of the bicycle, is characterized by an unobtrusive design and provides a flawless user experience.
In particular, the value that Sherlock offers is based on the following features:
Bicycle localization: constant and precise monitoring of the position of the bicycle thanks to the combination of a GPS module and an Internet connection (GSM/GPRS). The position is defined with an error lower than 5 meters and it can be consulted through a mobile app.

Push alarm notification: once the alarm is activated, if the bike is moved above a certain threshold or exit a geo-fence, the user receives an immediate push notification on the smartphone.
Unobtrusive design: the device is very compact (∅ = 19 mm, length = 110 mm) and light (weight less than 50 g). It can be freely installed inside the frame of the bicycle, the handlebars or the seatpost, and it is not visible from the outside. This way it is hard for the theft to detect and it does not alter the design of the bicycle.
Sherlock was conceived to provide cyclists and commuters with a device that allows them to locate their bike in every moment and retrieve it in case of theft.
The core business of the Sherlock Company is the development, production and sale of GPS enabled devices that can be used to track every kind of item, constantly and seamlessly.
The mission of Sherlock is to keep safe the things you love and set you free from the fear of theft.
Behind Sherlock there is a passionate team with a strong background in engineering, international management and user experience design. Among the six members of the team, we feature two PhD fellows of Politecnico di Torino with previous experience in start-up businesses, a key-account in an international manufacturing company, a software engineer coming from Intel, an industrial designer and a project manager in a start-up company.
