We believe that ‘Smart Kitchens’ will help to reduce food waste, enable healthier lifestyles and create a more positive attitude towards mealtimes. As one of the world’s largest food companies we want to make this a reality, but we can’t do it alone.

Through the Unilever Foundry, we’re looking to collaborate with a wide range of partners to create an ecosystem of digital tools that spans the food journey, from planning and organising meals, right through to shopping and cooking. We want to create technology that gives households intelligent insights into what they have in their fridge, freezer and pantry and can monitor the freshness of those ingredients. By understanding eating habits we’d like to be able to help families with personalised meal ideas, cooking plans and shopping lists that meet the exacting standards of the household.

• How can we identify what a consumer has purchased in store / online?
• How can we determine the use by dates of fresh items?
• How can we create a predictive automated pantry ordering service?

Whatever we create must add value for consumers as well as Unilever and white goods manufacturers.

We are looking to partner with companies who operate in the space of linking individual food items to retailer SKUs, food-related IoT and/or systems integration. Ideally you will have delivered successful in-market tests and be ready to scale.

Given the complexity and opportunity in this space we’re looking to pilot the technology of several companies with the desire that these pilots might evolve into long-term strategic partnerships.
