Soundstr installs a custom-built Android device called “Pulse” within a business. Pulse connects to a business’ sound system, WIFI and has Bluetooth broadcasting capabilities. Soundstr uses best-in-class Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology from Gracenote to identify all songs being played (recorded and live). Music performances are “fingerprinted” and identified on Soundstr servers. Identified songs are matched to their Performing Rights Organization (PRO) affiliation.

Soundstr is initially focused on serving businesses which feature music from currently untracked sources. These are businesses which feature bands, DJs, CD collections, etc – i.e. do not use background services such as Muzak, PlayNetworks, Pandora Business.

Soundstr offers two key products designed to help these businesses save money on license fees and, in the case of concert venues, generate additional revenue. We call these products Soundstr ID and Soundstr AD:

Soundstr ID provides a business with a monthly report of music usage, complete with PRO affiliations. This data allows the business to negotiate fairer license fees based on actual music usage, saving them money.

Collected music use data can also be used by PROs, labels, publishers, booking agents and artists/songwriters for accounting and marketing purposes.

Soundstr AD offers concert venues the ability to broadcast audio advertisements between performers at events. Unique Bluetooth and audio beacon codes can be synched with the audio ads to provide an advertiser with instantaneous feedback. Revenue is split between venue, headlining artist and Soundstr.

For Soundstr AD, a venue must first opt-in. Media buyers and advertisers select from available “inventory” (concerts). The buyer has the capability of buying a campaign by date, location, genre/demo, market, etc based around configured blackout limitations, set by the venue. The desired audio ad is then uploaded to Soundstr to be later downloaded to the specific location’s Pulse device. This works much like buying a Facebook ad, but the user uploads an audio ad to be broadcast instead of copy and an image.

Our device is a Trojan Horse. The value which we provide to businesses and the music industry only increases with scale. Future plans include BLE/WIFI-enabled exit lightbulbs to triangulate fan locations and track foot traffic. Our unique data set will be used to build better ACR to track TV, Radio and User Generated Content performances.

As a 45 year music and legal industry veteran representing artists, record companies, music publishing companies, and other music industry players, I can say with assurance that Soundstr is building a much needed solution to a 100-year old problem: the identification of public performances of music. Data gathered by Soundstr will dramatically, and I believe positively, impact the accuracy of royalty distributions to songwriters from Performing Rights Organizations and Publishers, which has been a problem in the music industry for as long as I have been involved. Their holistic approach to transparency will likely be transformative, ushering in a new era of fairness for licensors and licensees of music. I have worked with Eron going back to his days in Hawthorne Heights, and I can attest to his strong character and willingness to work hard. It has been a real pleasure to watch him grow from his lead role within a successful band to his new role as founder and CEO of Soundstr.

Chris Bergman CEO at Gylee Games

Soundstr has found an incredibly unique way to allow record labels and musicians to verify plays in the real world. The long term impact of this data will be enormous to artists as a whole as well as the entire ecosystem. Eron is a diligent visionary who has amassed a very capable team to bring a new source of monetization for the music industry.

I've known Eron for many years and been impressed with his persistence and his thoughtfulness in building Soundstr. It is a needed business in a complicated arena and his success at building meaningful partnerships with players in the space, a brand for himself and company, fundraising, and product development are exciting to watch.

Sean O'Malley COO at Global Music Rights

Soundstr has developed technology that can bridge the gap between music owners and music users to achieve mutual increases in revenue. By identifying a few key areas where these otherwise adversarial businesses overlap, Soundstr has created an opportunity for better partnerships and greater transparency. The identification of music usage is more important than ever (especially in the General Licensing area) and they are primed to use this data to change the dynamic of music licensing. I recommend Eron and Soundstr having been involved in discussions together for nearly 5 years and seeing them build the concept into a reality. He is a visionary professional and will help lead this company to its intended goal: a fair and fully functioning music marketplace where both music creators and music users succeed.

Eron and his Soundstr team are leveraging the data behind music is an incredibly compelling way. Without a doubt they're one of the most driven startups I've ever encountered and anyone taking note should double-down on this company before you get left behind.

Soundstr is a team of experts in the music and startup space, led by Eron, who is literally a rockstar. They're going places and just got the funding they need to make it happen. Specifically in the data space, they'll be able to benefit from working near data analysts capable of extracting valuable insights from large data sets--making sure that they know every time a song is played regardless of the setting to make sure musicians get paid.

Todd Cronin Co-Founder at Bandsintown Group

Eron, is motivated, smart and dedicated to his craft and passion. Eron and MusicPlay Analytics are trying to solve a very real and difficult problem that affects hundreds of thousands of musicians and businesses and if solved the revenue stream would likely eclipse digital music sales for many artists.

Eron has personal, real world experience with this problem, being the member of a highly successful band, and personally seeing the loss of significant royalty payments due to a flawed or non existent measurement system.
