Competitive advantage of cotton should be gained back again not for just the sake of cotton but for a sustainable world.
Also these experiments would lead material science and genetic engineering to a next level to come up with alternative materials to cotton. It can be a new type of man made natural fibre without destroying the forests while not wasting natural resources.
In addition to that, production lines has been examining to clarify phases where water, chemical and energy are consumed more. Dyeing and finishing processes are the most polluting and non-environmentally ones that requires an immediate solution. Therefore, space made fashion focuses on developing cotton types which respond to emerging problems of production. First experiments at micro-gravity labs would be done to decrease the need of dye to use less water, exposure to chemicals for employees and so less polluted water and soil as well as less emission of hazardous gases. Genetically modified pre-coloured cotton seeds is the prospective solution that can remove negative impacts of chemicals with a ratio of 50% minimum.
Next steps are planned as developing different types of seeds or fabrics for different garments. Either seed or cotton plant are projected to be developed, depending on the need of each supplier before garment production.
