Synth Babes exists to champion gender diversity and connectivity in the electronic music world. We are currently in the process of developing a social music application for anyone - whether a professional or practitioner working in the industry, fans who love electronic music or budding artists and producers who need to grow their network and experience and for fans to engage directly with artists and potentially support them in a financial way via subscriptions and patron-style giving.
The electronic music industry is estimated to be worth 7.5 Billion Dollars worldwide. This does not even take into account the people who make and interact with electronic music for fun!
While the platform will be open to everyone, Synth Babes will have allocated ‘safe spaces’ within the app for women, non-binary and transgender practitioners to connect and support each other - especially in the The Rage Room. Unfortunately, there is the need to provide such spaces online. There are many cases of this demographic feeling unsafe, violated and patronised when in existing settings and groups such as on Facebook and other forums. Current networks exist in segments on Facebook groups and email lists, but it would be a powerful thing to create a tool that makes this connectivity easier and more fun and interactive.
In addition, there will be a place to buy and sell second-hand electronic music gear and equipment and music software, promote events, publish tutorials (hosted primarily by women/non-binary and trans professionals to create the role models that are lacking) sell tickets and attract advertisers and the music industry to the platform - both aiding in the investment of it and using it as an A&R tool themselves. As Facebook sees a decline in new users, we hope to engage with a particular niche and allow for connectivity globally. We will also donate a portion of our profits to the Synth Babes mentor and grants program to develop emerging talent and the next generation of diverse electronic music practitioners.
