For 3yrs in college, I spent a significant portion of my time designing and building equipment to answer specific research questions. For example, high power laser diodes are approximately 50% efficient, and therefore, generate substantial waste heat. This energy originates from a small surface area at the tip of the device (facet). I generated the capability to quantify flow-boiling heat transfer from unique heat-exchangers as a means for more effectively cooling these devices. The intention is that this would enable higher power systems in the future.
