The problem we’ve identified is excess fluoride in drinking water (for both people and animals) and irrigation water. Fluoride is an inorganic poison found in ground water. Worldwide, there are over 200 million people affected by excess fluoride in drinking water. In Kenya, 20 million people are affected; more so in the rift valley. For people, excess fluoride causes diseases ranging from tooth decay, skeletal fluorosis – which is a disease that causes deformation of bones up to permanent brain damage. For animals, excess fluoride leads to pathological changes in their teeth and bone coupled with a marked reduction in appetite, productive and reproductive potentials which can result in severe losses in the dairy and beef industries.
