Crafts is India’s biggest sustainable competitive advantage. India is unique in the world in terms of the number and traditions of crafts. Indeed craft is a living tradition in India.

The craft sector represents an enormous opportunity, as the world burdened by Climate Change and fatigued by monoculture products craves for high aesthetic and sustainable products with character. India retains a priceless Intellectual Property and a large and distributed manufacturing base of traditional art and craft which has managed to survive through the ages. Current and evolving technologies like the internet, mobile, blockchain, IoT, AI and ML hold the key to unclocking this value and positioning India as the next crafting hub of the world for sustainable, high quality handcrafted products. There is hence a need to create market infrastructure and facilitate connections between enterprises and large brands, retailers and manufacturers in order to move the needle in the Indian Crafts industry. Especially in India, these enterprises and innovators require greater access to catalytic support in the form of knowledge, capital, and networks – through strategic investments and partnerships.

Startup Oasis will leverage its experience in driving this collaborative industry action and its deep connections with innovators and enterprises to broker ‘unusual alliances.’ Together with our partners, we will scale innovations and foster collaboration that can make the crafts industry more sustainable and scalable.
