The Family Room (TFR) is a solution for the millions of families where young children are separated from their adults (parents, caregivers, grandparents) due to jobs, divorce, military deployment or family relocation. TFR is a private, easy-to-use, research-based app with multiple channels for interactions that effectively mimic real-‐life interactions to establish a sense of security and accessibility.
Users create a private, customized virtual gathering space that offers a Synchronized Shared Environment where the young child has the ability to guide the activities, while the parent retains the authority to intervene. The cloud-based design allows for a range of activities: WATCH, READ, PLAY, HOMEWORK, SCRAPBOOK & PHOTOS. Users have access to curated activities that are age-appropriate and pre-approved by the parents. We also tackle the complexity of educational technology by creating a space devoted to homework and learning – with a dynamic virtual environment that hosts a synchronized blackboard, access to uploaded homework and tutorials that can be used through video or text.
Key components of TFR include:
• User-friendly interface and platform to create a virtual family room for children and adults to interact and play in real time;
• Proprietary shared synchronous environment that allows the child to direct activities and provides the parent with controls to protect and monitor time online;
• Learning environment adaptable to and compatible with the evolving demands of ed tech while maintaining simple access points like homework help and tutorials;
• Space for children and adults to stay updated on family activities and leave messages, allowing users to remain in touch and up-to-date even when they are not together or able to connect in real time;
• New technology development to enhance the interactive process and foster relationship building; and
• Proprietary activities and applications to target and address age and relationship-specific needs.
The site is designed to replicate all the advantages of a physical family space including:
• Owner control of a private, family space;
• Ability to communicate in real time and whenever it is convenient through video chat and messaging;
• Pre-approved enrichment activities via Watch, Read and Play;
• Educational development tools in Homework;
• Capturing and sharing family moments and information through Scrapbook and Photos;
• Centralized space and one-stop access
