TrackPacer is a real-time pacing system for track athletes. It is an LED strip along the inner perimeter of a running track that you can program on a phone app to sequentially light up at your target pace. It is the same concept as the super imposed world record line on televised running and swimming events, except that you, as the athlete, can see the record line you are chasing. You can input your desired pace, i.e. 5-min/mile, into the TrackPacer application on your phone or other device. Your phone app is connected by Bluetooth to a microcontroller that sends electronic signals to control the light strip. The sequentially lighting LEDs appear as a traveling light for you to chase. The TrackPacer app’s interface allows you to preset your desired pace for each lap in either miles/hour, time (i.e. a meet or world record time) for a given race distance, or sec/lap or min/miles. For example, you could enter in that you want to run four laps at 75 secs/lap with 30 sec rests between eac...

For example, you could enter in that you want to run four laps at 75 secs/lap with 30 sec rests between each lap. After you set your pace, you push the "Start" button. Once the "Start" button is pushed, the app visually and audibly counts down "3 – 2 – 1 - GO" at which point you begin running. TrackPacer provides a continuous indicator of pace during the entirety of the lap. It is the visual embodiment of time. Its convenient, easily viewed placement on the inner perimeter of a track provides instant feedback. Additionally, there is a timing component in the system, freeing coaches from the need to monitor and track multiple stop watches. Runners can wear RFID chips on their shoe, and the timing devices placed on each node around the track pacer system will compile and generate splits.
