We are a Social Enterprise managing the municipal solid waste value chain as a resource for the social and economic empowerment of marginalized groups in our community, especially women and youth.
Africa produces 125million tones of municipal solid waste with only 4% recycled and 650million African households use biomass as their sole source of fuel. In Malawi, waste in 95.6% households is neither collected nor recycled and 97.12% of the Malawian population uses firewood and charcoal. This has led to serious environmental problems
In response, we are recycling municipal solid waste by making carbonized briquettes and organic fertilizer, for the majority of the low and medium income households. This is done by training community empowerment groups using the Making waste work tool kit.
By engaging the community to manage waste holistically helps us to contribute to the achievement of 15 out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

By engaging the community to manage waste holistically helps us to contribute to the achievement of 15 out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Both our products reduce CO2 emissions and our briquettes burn longer than charcoal and firewood, cuts down indoor pollution and no trees are cut.
Our community and gender responsive approach sets us apart from our competitors.
So far we have trained 467 men and women and produced 60,000 briquettes manually.
Now turning to our market. Globally the total available market is projected at 612.6 million USD, while the African serviceable available market is estimated at 3.9 billion USD. Our obtainable market is estimated at 22.9 million USD which are the low and medium income households as well as restaurant owners, schools and orphanages.
To date we have realised 2,522 USD and we project to grow our monthly sales to 9,205 USD by May 2022.
The community empowerment groups sell the briquettes around their neighborhood. This ensures that economic benefits circulate within the community but also bringing the product closer to the customer. We market our product through fairs, social media and word of mouth.
