Broadcasting has evolved ever since the inception of TV into a massively complex, and proprietary technology stack, which, by the maturation of the web, is increasingly confronted with the disruptive potential of IP- and cloud-based approaches to simplify, cheapen and accelerate the creation, operation and management of TV channels.
VJU is a next-generation video management application for broadcasters and media publishers. It resides in the cloud and offers an all-in-one workflow to manage broadcast media entirely in the web-browser. The cloud has an essential role in the impending evolution of broadcast technologies. Traditionally, broadcaster have built their workflows in dedicated, proprietary and expensive hardware and appliances. Given the industries desires to improve efficiency, reduce cost and find adequate answers to new market requirements and TV consumption habits, the cloud moves center stage as core broadcasting tasks are getting virtualized. Hence, broadcast technologies and IT are converging , creating new production processes, which change and replace the traditional broadcasting value chain. The ongoing transformation has massive impact, as incumbent broadcast technology vendors are transiting from producing specialized hardware towards the creation of software, operated on custom off-the-shelf hardware.
Essentially, this was the reason for one of the most pronounced broadcast technology suppliers, Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq: HLIT) to acquire a strategic stake in VJU in 2014.
