Small and middle-sized family farms are fast disappearing as cropland shifts to larger farms and the opportunities to turn a profit are few. Consumers want to buy food directly from their local farmers and while physical farmers markets have boomed in the past few years, farmers not only work long days to produce the food, but they work long days selling it at farmers markets or distributing it to local households and businesses. Simply put, there is a distribution problem.

Wildkale.com is a local farmers marketplace that gives customers the experience of a physical farmers market while providing the local farms with a way to sell directly to the households while never leaving the farm. The website is simple to use: when a consumer enters their zip code, Wildkale.com makes visible only the local farmers in their community. The consumer then shops from each farm’s virtual farmstand and places an order that the farmer sees instantly. The farmer confirms the orders from their smartphone app and packages it at the farm in the Wildkale provided temperature-protected, sustainable packaging. UPS delivers orders to the consumer overnight with ground 1-day shipping, which is inexpensive, local, and ensures the freshness of the food. The type of food, the amounts of food, and when to receive a delivery are the choices of the customer.

Wildkale.com is an asset-light business model that is easily scalable on code. For example, if a farmer in Saint Louis signs up, creates a farmstand (adds photos and description of products), and receives packaging through our national paper distributor, they can immediately start selling to local consumers in a few states including Illinois, Missouri, and Tennessee. We are currently operating in the North East, but would like to use this accelerator opportunity to add farmers in different parts of the USA.
